Adcock Ingram becomes the first major pharmaceutical company to take up proudly South African membership

South African pharmaceutical company Adcock Ingram has become the first company in the sector to join the local procurement campaign, Proudly South African.

In line with its emphasis on the support of companies in the manufacturing, automotive, agro processing and pharmaceutical sectors, Proudly South African’s partnership with Adcock Ingram is an important addition to its growing portfolio of companies.

Said Proudly SA CEO, Eustace Mashimbye, ‘We have already forged a great working relationship with Adcock Ingram in the months it took to put this partnership together. We have been so impressed with their stringent adherence to our qualifying criteria, including best labour practices, a sound environmental policy and of course, their support for the jobs market in keeping their manufacturing in the country. We look forward to working with Adcock Ingram and their team on various promotional platforms and to understanding this sector even better through the creation of working forums.’

Adcock Ingram Group Public Affairs Executive, Doreen Kosi commented on the importance of being not just nominally proudly South African but of being affiliated to Proudly South African, the organisation. “Being part of this ‘buy local’ advocacy campaign exposes us to many new opportunities,” said Kosi. “It forces us to think not only about ourselves and how we are constantly working to grow the business in the South African market, but about how we can reciprocate by increasing our own local procurement both in our manufacturing plants and office facilities. South African businesses need to start to recognise the importance of trading with one other to boost our economy and potentially create new jobs.”

Adcock Ingram has three local manufacturing plants, producing a wide range of consumer, prescription and hospital products. Well known consumer brands in the over the counter medication market include Panado, Bioplus, Allergex, Citro-Soda and Compral. The company is a leading local supplier to both the public and private sectors. Adcock Ingram is also a leading manufacturer of antiretroviral (ARV) medicines.
